Aftershocks (Part 3)

A few days later, Thomas added a little more to his blog about his latest body:

“So I guess the routine now for each new body is going to involve a lot of paperwork with the feds. None of it’s terribly hard, but it does kill an entire day. The good part about is that you learn all about the swap that just took place. Basic run-down? The latest was a three-way between this woman, myself, and a man. The man is now in the Asian businesswoman’s body that I had just been in; the woman I now am is now in the man’s body. Apparently, I had been the only person not in close proximity, as the woman and I met while filling out paperwork. I was also the only one who had experienced an Aftershock before.

“The feds also told us they have no estimation on when they espect Aftershocks to stop. In fact, according to their data, it’s actually gotten a little worse.

”On a light note, she did my makeup, but I think she may have overdone it! I’m certainly not a makeup expert...at least not yet. I’m sure I’ll be in enough women’s bodies over time that I’ll get pretty good at it.”

Thomas had planned to update his blog every time he swapped into a new body. After about three months, he was starting to think he might never experience another Aftershock from the Great Shift, but it did eventually happen. He quickly grabbed this body’s camera phone and snapped a picture in a mirror before updating:

“I know many of you have been waiting for the second entry, and it’s finally here. This is the new face that will greet me in the mirror every morning for at least a few months. She’s a little over 5 feet, probably slightly over 100 pounds, and around age 25...at least by my best guess.

”In the span sine my last entry, the government had set up a system to deal with these Aftershocks. It’s not all worked out yet, but tomorrow will be busy and filled with completing paperwork and learning about who I am now.”

Aftershocks (Part 1)

TG Caption Great Shift Aftershocks
Thomas took a deep breath before opening up his laptop to type the first entry in his new blog.

“When the Great Shift hit, I thought I was one of the lucky ones.” He wrote, “I hadn’t been shifted; it was short-sighted. For the next year, I was quite arrogant about the fact that I still had my original body. But that all changed in an instant about two weeks ago. I imagine the experience was much like the rest of the world had the year prior: a period of extreme disorientation before finding myself in a new body. I swapped with a
business woman of Asian decent who hadn’t been swapped in the original Shift either. It took a while for us to convince anyone to believe our story. Surprisingly, considering the entire world had swapped bodies not long ago. But there were soon other people reporting the same thing. Leading scientists couldn’t ignore it any longer and dubbed such swaps like mine as ‘Aftershocks’ from the Great Shift. These aftershocks happen in small pockets of two to twelve people -- at least, twelve is the largest so far. They seem to happen more often to people who weren’t affected by the original Shift, though no one is completely immune. It also seems that once you have been hit by an aftershock, the more likely you are to be affected by a future aftershock; these tend to occur a few months apart. I plan to chronicle my experiences here. Currently, I am still in the body of the Asian business woman. She is 5’2”, 32 years old, and 110 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes; she is single. I will continue to update you on all my future aftershocks.”
