Amber and her mother opened to door to see her father standing there in the body of her sister, Autumn. He had apparently been doing a bit of dress-up while they were out.

“Well, this isn’t quite what I expected when you said he was ‘doing well,’” Amber’s mom said.

“He didn’t look like this when I left,” Amber retorted, “He was just watching TV.”

“I’m exploring my new femininity,” He said, “And I’m dealing with hormones and impulses I’m just not used to.”

“We all are.” Amber scoffed, “I just hope we can all swap back soon.”

“I...don’t...want...to...” Her dad said softly.

“I had no idea how much trouble you got into at school,” Amber’s mom began to lecture her, “When we get home, your father will not let you hear the end of it.”

It felt hypocritical, and Amber wasn’t having any of it. “You’re one to talk! You’ve been in my body for one day, and you were already in the principal’s office!? Plus, it takes an extra special sort of effort to do something bad enough to call me in -- you in -- whatever -- a parent in! I just hope we can get back in our bodies before you screw up my life any more than you already have!”

“I’m trying to set it right, Amber! I’ve seen your grades! And your father is in no condition to go to work considering --”

“Oh, God! He’s doing fine in Autumn’s body! You’ll see.”

All in the Family (Part 2)

“So, what the f*** did she do?” Amber asked from inside her mom’s body. Secretly, she was happy her mom got in trouble while they were swapped.

The principal was taken aback by this woman’s language, but he did his best to ignore it. He explained, “While, typically Amber’s behavior involves violating the dress code or smoking in the bathroom, in this case she was talking back to her teacher.”

“I was correcting a basic fact!” Amber’s mom protested from inside Amber’s body, “My degree in --”

Realizing her mom’s mistake, Amber quickly interjected with an insult, “She’s a f***in’ know-it-all. Let me straighten this s*** out at home, and maybe she can avoid detention this time?”

Quite frankly, the principal thought he had it all figured out. He assumed Amber’s mom was just a bad influence, and -- all things considered -- Amber herself was probably doing quite well in spite of it. He couldn’t have been more wrong, but at least he was satisfied in his own head. He decided to let Amber off with a warning.

All in the Family (Part 1)

Amber clutched the wheel tightly. She had avoided driving since swapping bodies with her mom as she didn’t have her license yet. However, a call from the school was forcing her to go in and meet with the principal.

What could her goodie-two-shoes mom have possibly done to get sent to the principal? Amber was in trouble all the time. She got detentions, notes sent home, and so many bad grades...but a call from the principal? Ugh.

Amber thought it should’ve been easy for her mom. After all, she had been through high school before. Amber was trying to manage life as an adult! That was much harder! Though even she had to admit that it was probably better for her than her dad and sister, who also ended up swapping bodies in this whole mixup.

And despite several near misses and a terrible parking job while being distracted by all of this running through her head, Amber did arrive safely at the school.

Freaky-Friday-esque (Part 4)

Despite Candice’s rather flippant attitude to the family-wide body swap, she was as worried as anyone. And despite having access to her mom’s credit card and other perks, she hated being in her body much more than she’d let her brother know.

Against all odds, she was actually good at her mom’s job, but she still hated being there. A 9-to-5 was still way worse than school hours and much less fun. On lunch breaks, she’d pull out the yoga mat and some workout clothes her mom left in a drawer. The exercise was a struggle, but she hated being in her mom’s overweight body. She hated being old too, but she knew there was nothing she could do about that. However, it seemed that no matter how hard she tried, there wasn’t anything she could do about the weight either.

Being bored in Candice’s classes, Matt’s mind drifted to Candice herself. She could cause so much trouble in their mom’s body. First, would she even safely make it to work without getting in an accident? And then how would she handle an actual job? Candice had gotten fired after two weeks working retail at the mall, and now she’s have to handle being in an office?

And then Matt thought back to his own self, now stuck in his 18-year-old sister’s body and repeating classes he took years ago. He was certain he’d ace any finals she had, but he wsn’t sure Candice deserved the good grades he’d get for her. Yet if was doomed to live her life, he’d want to set himself up for success as much as he could.

Would they all be doomed like that? Mom was certainly most upset about the whole thing, but this was going to a miserable future for him as well if he was stuck as Candice...

Freaky-Friday-esque (Part 2)

“I don’t think you thought this through,” Matt said about halfway through driving to Candice’s school.

Candice shrugged, “Mom’s office has a lax dress code. It’ll be fine.”

“No, I mean driving. I can’t drop you off first because your body only has a learner’s permit. But how are you going to get to the office once I get to school?”

“Mom’s office isn’t THAT far from the school. I’ll be fine. When I drive in her body, no one will know I don’t have an actual license, right?”

“You’re still a terrible driver.”

“Whatever. I drove to the mall to get these clothes without any issue.”

“What? The mall is like thirty minutes away in a busy part of town.”

“Maybe I’m just better at driving now that I’m in Mom’s body.”

“I just hope we swap back to our own bodies soon. I don’t want to in your body for any longer than I have to. No offense.”

“None taken. It’s fine. I understand.”

Freaky-Friday-esque (Part 1)

“Are you really going out wearing that? Mom’s gonna be pissed if she finds out.” Matt told his sister Candice.

“Mom’s too busy crying her eyes out, because she got stuck with Dad’s body. Besides, it’s not like I’m forcing you to dress my body in any particular way.” Candice retorted.

Matt didn’t really want to press the issue. He was still groaning about this whole Freaky Friday-esque weirdness his family was experiencing. His sister was in his mom’s body. He was in his sister’s body. His mom was in their dad’s body. And their dad was back off at Matt’s college in his body. He often thought about how his dad was the only one sorta fine with this whole thing.

“That’s fair,” Matt finally replied to his sister, “But where’d you even get those clothes anyway. There’s no way Mom’s body could fit into anything in your closet.”

“Mom’s body means Mom’s credit card.”

“Oh, I take it back. Mom’s not gonna be pissed. She’s just gonna kill you.”

“Whatever. Just get in the car.” Candice said as she walked over to the passenger side.

“You expect me to drive? Your body technically doesn’t have a license. I still can’t believe you’ve been putting it off for what? Two years now?”

“It’ll be fine. I have a learner’s permit. That means I’m allowed as long as there’s a licensed driver next to me, which mom technically is.”

Freaky Friday

I was trying to figure out just what the hell was going on. One minute, I’m off studying at college, and the next I find myself inside the body of my own mother -- yet I seemed to be wearing my sister’s school uniform. I stormed off toward home to demand some answers.

Our elderly neighbor was waiting outside for some reason. She looked worried, but before I could ask what was wrong, she explained that she was actually my sister stuck in the neighbor’s body. I quickly added that I was actually her brother.

And so my sister started explaining about the weird “Freaky Friday” incident she had, how she woke up inside our mother’s body. They decided to avoid cliches and not try to pretend to be each other, which is why she put her uniform on and headed to school, despite being inside of mom’s body. Once there, she begged for help from the weird goth chick. She did some research about some magic spells and came to my sister after school with a solution: a spell for a single wish. She had to study it and cast it when she was alone.

And so my sister wished. The wish was simple: For her and my mom to switch bodies again. It was probably too simple. She should’ve specifed “with each other” or something like that. That vagueness was apparently how I ended up swapped with mom’s body and how my sister ended up as my elderly neighbor (with the neighbor now in my sister’s body and my mom in mine). Unless we find yet another solution, it seems were all stuck...

Freaky Week (Part 2)

As Stephanie continued to rant, Ming continued to try to say something in response but couldn’t get more than a word or two out before being drowned out by Stephanie’s shouting. All Ming wanted to do was tell her daughter that she had figured out a way to reverse the body swap and get them both back to normal. Of course, Ming wasn’t going to mind waiting a little longer to share the news. She loved being eighteen again, and it was clear that Stephanie was still working out issues while in Ming’s body. After a week or being swapped, Ming had hoped that Stephanie would have calmed down. Well, maybe in another week she’ll be ready to listen. Until then, Ming was going to enjoy her time in Stephanie’s body.

Couples’ Counselor

As a couples’ counselor, Diane always told her clients that both partners needed to attend; it was essential. So she frowned when her client, Amanda, entered the room. It was Amanda’s third visit to her office, and she seemed to have brought her mother instead of her husband. Diane looked sternly at Amanda.

“Amanda, you know it’s impossible for me to help you if your husband doesn’t come along,” Lectured Diane.

“I’m not Amanda; I AM her husband. I’m Ryan.” Ryan responded from inside Amanda’s body, “And Amanda is here inside the body of her own mother.”

“You’ve all...swapped bodies?”

“It’s crazy, right? I know it seems impossible, and it’s made our relationship a little...weird, to say the least. But it’s also made me realize how much I love Amanda, no matter what body she’s in.”

Amanda nodded, “Oh, Ryan’s been so kind and sweet since it all happened! I can’t believe it.”

Diane could only sit and listen in shock as the couple explained every little detail.

Freaky Week (Part 1)

“You don’t get to tell me what to do anymore EVER, Mom!” Stephanie shouted, “Because of whatever Freaky Friday weirdness we went through that swapped me into your 50 year old body, I’m stuck being an old woman! I lost over thirty years of my life, Mom! I’m allowed to act young and foolish if I want to! I didn’t get to enjoy going off to college, and instead I got stuck in your body! So if I want to dye my hair or go to the mall or dress up in outfits that I’m ‘too old for,’ well, I can!”

“Stephanie --” Ming tried to interupt her daughter, but she could barely get a word in.

“Shut up! Just let me enjoy myself! Let me have these little things! These moments! It’s not like I go to your work like this! I have’t gotten fired! And I just deserve to have FUN! I’m an eighteen year olf stuck in the body of her own mother for God’s sake!”

Family Therapy

“This is the dumbest family therapy session Mom has ever signed us up for.” Kevin whined to his sister, “Swapping bodies with each other for an entire week? Who came up that? I can’t believe I’m stuck as you, Crystal. Do you even know what I just had to go through?”

“Yeah, Kevin,” Crystal retorted calmly, “I’m fully aware of my cycles, and you know I have to go through that every month, right?”

“Ugh, it’s gross.”

“Well, I’m not exactly happy being in Mom’s older body either, but I think I’m also picking up parts of her personality. I feel calmer, wiser, more patient -- and I think you might be picking up some of my bitchiness. God, I can’t believe I’m admitting that about myself.”

“I’m bitchy because I’m experiencing PMS for the first time, Crystal. It sucks.”

No Guarantee

Wendy couldn’t explain why she was looking at her own face. That is, until she looked down to see the body of her own daughter. She turned her head back to look her own face right in the eye.

“Abigail? Is that you?” She asked.

“Why are you calling me Abigail, Abigail?” Wendy’s original body said before quickly adding, “Wait, what’s wrong with my voice?” After another pause, she finally added, “I’m in the body...of...my... own...wife...”

“Luke?” Wendy then asked, realizing she may now be in her daughter Abigail’s body, but it appeared it was her husband Luke who was now in her body. She could only guess that Abigail was now in Luke’s body, but there was certainly no guarantee of that at this point.

What a Wedding

Katie couldn’t help but smile. It was such a weird day, but she was having fun. It started out with her getting ready for her wedding. The ceremony was perfect, but things got strange soon after. Just as the couple stood up for a toast, their heads fell off their necks and started rolling around the floor along with some of the guests. Those unaffected looked on and gasped as the headless bodies picked up random heads and placed them atop their necks. Katie was a little shocked when she found that she had her mother’s body from the neck down, and just as shocked to see that her own mother now had her young body. After getting over the initial shock, Katie just decided to have fun. Despite her age, Katie had to admit that her mom’s body didn’t feel sore nor uncomfortable; her mom had kept in pretty good shape. Thinking the odd phenomenon would repeat and everyone would return to normal eventually, Katie just decided to have fun with it. However, her new husband, whose head was now atop the body of the maid of honor, sat in the corner sulking. He didn’t like the thought of his bride now having the body of a much older woman, and he certainly didn’t like the fact that he now had the body of any female at all!

It had been several months since Matt had switched bodies; he was still in the goth-y woman’s body. The baby in the gray-haired man’s body was making significant progress as well. Being in an adult body had apparently caused rapid brain development. He was sure no one be able to tell that there was a child’s mind inside the man’s body now.

Things took a strange turn when Matt returned one day with groceries, however. The baby had left a note scrawled on the daily news. He knew how well Matt had taken care of him, dedicated his life to him, but he was fine now and ready to go out on his own. Matt was alone again, and somehow he felt he knew that meant he’d start switching bodies again very soon...

Matt had been taking care of the baby in the woman’s body for about a week, and he hadn’t shifted out of the gray-haired man’s body as of yet. He couldn’t remember the last time he had been in anyone’s body this long since starting to swap. He wondered if this was it. That is, until it happened again. This time it was different. It was familiar. He realized he had swapped with the baby in the woman’s body. It gave him hope. He had switched back to a previous body. Maybe one day he’d switch back to his own. Of course, now the baby was inside the gray-haired man, and he was still going to take care of the child. It was bath time now, and as he bathed the baby, it started to talk! It was certainly a day of good news for Matt!

As a baby, Matt had a hard time telling time. He was always sleeping or eating, so days lost meaning. His next swap happened while he was taking a nap. He found himself in a middle aged man’s body with graying hair. When he awoke and found that he was an adult again, he had only one thought on his mind: finding the body the baby had swapped into. And he was more than thankful to find her alive. However, she was now a grown woman with the mind of a baby. Matt was not only happy that his suicide attempt hadn’t killed her, but he was even happier she managed to stay alive. After all, she seemed barely able to feed herself or do just about anything. Matt decided he’d try to take care of her as best he could, no matter what body he ended up in, at least until she could take care of herself. He hoped that sher infant mind would mature quickly in the body of an adult, but he honestly had no idea.

His body jerked. Matt could tell the switch was faster this time, as though it was reacting to his suicide attempt. Trying to kill himself simply wasn’t an option, but would he ever even die? Switch bodies all the time was bad enough, but literally switching forever? The thought sent an unpleasant feeling through him -- no, wait, that unpleasant feeling was something else. He realized he was having trouble with his motor control. Then he realized -- he was now in the body of a baby! Things had gone from bad to worse, but he felt terrible about what this meant for the poor child swapped into the woman’s body he had just been in!

There was only one bullet in the chamber. Matt thought about it some more. He could end it. End it all; end all this swapping. He left a mess of people in the wrong bodies throughout this chain. This would put an end to that. Then again, it would also mean that he’d be ending this woman’s life. Would that be fair to her? Even if there was no hope she’d ever get her own body back? He put the barrel in his mouth and pulled the trigger.
