It didn’t take long before students were talking about Dr. Wong’s experiment as well. Though the lab may have been restricted, students were resourceful. One frat even decided to declare a unique test for their pledges. The pledges had to sneak into the lab and select one of them to swap. They could be selected by voting, force, or whatever. The pledges were surprised when one of them volunteered, Derek. The swapper (in this case, Derek) would then be hooked up to the machine in order to trade bodies with a pledge at a sorority forced to go through a similar challenge. The final step was to return Derek (now in the body of a sorority pledge) to the frat, where the brothers would now do to his now female body whatever they wanted.

Derek had other plans.

He had plotted with Madison (the sorority pledge he swapped with). They had a plan to fight back right after the swap. As Derek removed the helmet from his now blonde head, he ran. The frat pledges gave chace. While they did catch Derek, and they even began to drag him to the frat house -- a well-timed call in advance meant public safety and the police were waiting. Derek screamed for help, and the boys had to let him go. Derek knew it was a risk to pretend to want to join the frat and risk his safety, but he had to see if the rumors about Dr. Wong’s lab were true (of course they were), and he couldn’t see anyway in on his own. Madison had a similiar longing to be a guy, and the two began dating.

Word of Dr. Wong’s experiment leaked among a few in the faculty. Many people dismissed it as pure science fiction. Professor Austin MacDuff saw an opportunity to solve a problem of his own making. He had been sleeping with one of his students; she was not only ready to call it off, but expose his actions to the entire university. He convince her to meet him one last time, picking Dr. Wong’s lab as the location. He intentionally fumbled his words and told her to put on the helmet, explaining that it would allow his thoughts and emotions to transmit directly to her so she could understand how much she meant to him. After she did so, he pulled the level.

Within an instant, Austin was inside the body of his own student. It’s not like he wanted to be a 20-year-old or a woman or a student again, but he felt like he had no choice. If she tried to expose him now, she would only be hurting her own body. He’d be completely in the clear as long as he had her body. She was obviously more angry than ever at Austin, but there was little she could do, as Dr. Wong’s experiment currently only worked one time for each person it was used on.

An Education

As Aaron looked in the mirror to tie the long hair back into a ponytail, he felt like he was starting back at square one. For the past decade he had studied hard in undergrad and graduate school, then there was the endless search until he finally scored a teaching position at a local college. Then just as spoke the first word in front of his first class, he found himself sitting in the hall hearing his voice recite the lecture he had prepared.

For some inexplicable reason, he was now inside the body of one of his freshman students, a young woman. He decided it best not to panic as everyone else was acting completely normally -- including his own body.

After class, he went to the nearest bathroom, reminding himself he now had to use the woman’s room. It was hard not to contemplate what his new life would be like. He’d be going through the motions all over again, but as someone else this time. He didn’t even know much about the woman he now was. He hadn’t learned any of his students’ names; he’d barely even reviewed the class list!

Blessing

Henry was having trouble processing the events of the day. He sat on the edge of his desk in his study and went over it all in his head. After teaching classes at the university for decades now, he had been thinking of retiring. Heck, he even had a letter ready to submit to the dean later today explaining his intention to leave at the end of the semester. But as he was lecturing in one of his classes, a bright light came across the auditorium. Instantly, he swapped bodies with one of his students. Not only was he affected, but the entire class -- the entire school -- the entire world. Henry was no longer an old man in his 80s; he was a 20 year old woman. Instead of concerning himself with his new gender, he was more worried about what this meant for his planned retirement. It didn’t seem like a viable option now. He had prepared his mind for it, but he began to realize it was something he had felt forced to do; it wasn’t something he wanted to do. With new, youthful energy, he could continue for many more decades. This shift seemed like a blessing...at least for him.

Samuel couldn’t wait to share all the good news with Miho. He had done a very good job making sure Miho would have a very good life once they were able to swap back. That was the other piece of good news; he was close to recreating his bodyswapping invention. He was just waiting for a few more rare elements to be shipped in and assembled into the device. They had been meeting about once a month since the swap to update each other about their lives. Samuel smiled just thinking about their next scheduled meeting in a few day when he could tell her everything!

Several years later, and Dr. Samuel Blake was still looking for a way to swap back bodies with Miho. Many of his failed attempts at doing so created plenty of genius inventions in their own right -- including a mind reading device and a teleporter! As a result, getting kicked off campus had been no big deal. Plenty of offers came rolling in. Many had been from private companies, but Dr. Blake chose another school who offered the chance for several degrees. He wanted to make sure that when he found a way to switch back that he was giving Miho the kind of life she deserved.

Despite a difficult first day in Kelli’s body, Principal Lewis was starting to adjust. He narrowly avoided a tragedy in the locker room, but now he was dealing with wearing Kelli’s clothes. It seemed every single one of her outfits made her look like a complete slut. He sighed, ashamed that he would have to wear these things until he could get something more modest to replace them.

Dr. Blake waited for Miho to share all the awful news. She shrugged. With the machine destroyed, she wouldn’t have to be the one to deal with being kicked out of college, at least for now. He promised her whatever he could do for her in the future. She shrugged again. What could he possibly offer as long as he was stuck in her body. Dr. Blake knew she was right.

Richard Strauss braved it through the next few months to finish out the rest of the school year, doing his best to cope with Cassia’s body and social anxiety. It was a difficult task, and when summer arrived he decided to evaluate if he would return to teaching in the fall. He sat in his chair to think about it. The social anxiety stress of getting up in front of a class each day wasn’t healthy. On the other hand, Cassia’s body was still young and beautiful with a full life ahead, and thanks to the Great Shift that life was Richard’s. After several hours of thought, he made a decision. He’d return to school, get some higher level degrees, and pursue a career as a research scientist. Something where he could be alone and solitary to do work.

Dr. Blake dropped to his knees when he saw his lab. All of his equipment had been severely damaged by the fire. Things had been bad up to this point, but they had just taken a turn for even worse. He wouldn’t be able to switch back with Miho until he could repair it all, which could take quite some time. He felt horrible about what this would mean for her.

Samuel’s jaw dropped when he arrived at his research lab. There were fire engines outside the building with firefighters exiting. He asked one what was going on. He was told about an electrical fire inside one of the room. It was all under control and safe to go inside now, but an extensive amount of damage had been done. Dr. Blake was worried. He rushed inside as fast as he could without tripping.

Dr. Blake didn’t have a moment to spare. He tossed on some socks and a pair of Miho’s shoes--he was in such a rush that he didn’t notice that the socks were mismatched or that the shoes weren’t the most practical--and rushed off to the lab. From time to time, he had to stop to hold his head. His hangover wasn’t getting any better, and his head was throbbing as a result. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he soon regretted his choice of shoes as well once they started to pinch his feet!

Dr. Samuel Blake awoke the next morning hoping it was all a dream, but the massive hangover he had told him otherwise. He put his hands to his temples, still a little shocked to see Miho’s tiny fingers with painted nails instead of his own. It was early, so early in fact that he realized that he had about an hour before campus security would arrive to escort him off-campus. He had enough time to get to his research station and tell Miho; he could only hope that she would be there already!

One drink became two, two became three. Had Dr. Blake still be in his old body, he would’ve been able to handle it easily, but inside Miho’s body with her low tolerance, he was shitfaced. Katie had passed out, and the boy she invited over was eying Miho’s body as a potential sexual opportunity. Dr. Blake was easily seduced in his drunken state. The two had such loud sex that it attracted the attention of an Resident Advisor. The RA entered, discovering the pair, the passed out roommate, and the liquor bottles. As punishment for drinking, all three would be banned from campus for a week. Dr. Blake froze. How would he fix his machine if he couldn’t get on campus? How would he explain this to Miho?

Two weeks passed since the Shift, and students were finally being called back to class. Richard had done his best in that time to prepare himself on how to overcome Cassia’s social anxiety. As the bell rang at 9am, he stood up in front of class and looked at all the eyes staring at him. He froze for a moment, knowing this new nervous feeling all too well now. But another moment passed and he was able to suck it up and continue teaching the class as he normally would. Or as normal as he could now that he was inside the body of one of his own students!

Stephen had successfully avoided Zhang for a long time after he stole her body and life. He skipped the graduation ceremony and took a job halfway across the country. But after two years, it seemed that a remeeting was inevitable. He was absolutely shocked to see Zhang in his old body. He didn’t know what to say or do, but she seemed to brush it off. She actually turned his life around and was now happy being Stephen. This shocked Stephen more than anything.

Though classes would be canceled for the next few days,the teachers still met each day to discuss how they would help students cope with the after effects of the Great Shift. Richard still found that he was often too nervous to speak up. He wanted to advocate for improvements to the school, but instead he found himself sitting quietly in the back. He slipped out to the restroom; it would be his first time in the school’s women’s room. When he entered, he was disgusted to find that it was just as graffitied, dirty, and run-down as the men’s room. Many of the toilets did not even have seats. The experience reinforced his views, but when he returned to the meeting, he still found himself unable to speak up.
