Did the Math

Alvin did the math. There was no way he was going to be able to afford retirement at this rate. He needed more time to earn more, and a new technology seemed to offer a solution -- he could simply buy a younger body to swap into. A thirty year old body would be expensive, but it would buy him decades of more time in the workforce -- enough to recoup the loss from purchasing the new body and save for retirement after that.

Of course, he tried to keep the cost of his new body as low as possible. The budget wouldn’t allow for specific selections beyond age. The head and face were extra, so he opted to keep his own.

In hindsight, he probably should’ve spent a little more for additional specifics as he was quite unhappy with the results of his purchase with the plump, feminine body he now possessed below the neck. He couldn’t even afford to try again, at least not yet. He’d be paying off this body for about ten years, then he could give it another go.

Regular Sunday

I didn’t really wanted to think about the fact that I swapped into the body of my neighbor, Mrs. Kim. I just wanted to have a normal Sunday. And I did my best to ignore the fact that I was now a 40 year old Korean woman and just tried to enjoy a football game with a beer and some snacks.

It was easier than I expected to keep it out of my mind. Though there were moments -- like how after my third beer, I needed to use the bathroom. And there was the time Mr. Kim came to my door wondering why who he thought was me was vacuuming his floor while what he thought was his wife was sipping beers in my apartment. But the distractions worked for the most part, and I at least got through the day with the hope that something would happen overnight to get me back to my own body...

Miss

Melissa walked up to her former body and looked down as it sat at the bench where they had agreed to meet. She was going to miss being this tall for sure.

“Are you ready to swap back Professor Lee?” Brent asked from inside her body.

“No,” She replied bluntly, “I’m going to miss a lot about being you.”

“It’s not fair that I already missed out on an entire semester of college while those eggheads worked on a way to swap us back to normal.”

“I know. It’s not fair. I’m just going to miss a lot about being you. I liked being young again for a while, even if I had to do it in a guy’s body.”

“I won’t miss being a woman. Menopause sucks.”

“Yeah, I’m sorry about that.”

Nursing Home

“What the hell did you do to me, you preverted old man,” Camila shouted, “You stole my body somehow! I don’t want to be old! I don’t want to be a man! I don’t want to be stuck as you in this nursing home! Give me my damn body back!”

“Gee, Mr. Gillis, I think I am going to have to talk to the doctor about having your medication increased,” Jasper lied while pretending to act concerned, “Talk of stealing bodies? That’s just dillustional.”

“No, no! I remember! I remember getting my nursing training, and I remember getting this job! I remember my first kiss with a boy! I remember! I know who I really am!”

“Seriously, look at mr, Mr. Gillis. No one would ever believe you are anything but a sad, old man. And it’s probably not best to act so aggressive towards the person in charge of your care. You’d be quite amazed at what I’m authorized to do based on the documents your children signed when they put you in here.”

Suddenly, Camila got quiet. She was realizing that Jasper had not just stolen her body, but now he was threatening her. If she ever hoped to get her body back from him, she was going to have to figure out a much more subtle approach.

Unremarkable (Part 3)

“How about those two?” Melissa pointed to an old man being attended to by a hispanic aide. They were often seen on campus. The rumor was the old man used to be a genius professor who had gotten senile or whatever.

“That seems almost cruel...” Neil mused.

“Consider it an experiment. Does the disease only affect the body or does it fundamentally change the soul? There’s nothing stopping you from swapping them back to normal right after we do an observation.”

Neil eventually gave him and swapped the pair. He briefly passed out from exhaustion. When he came to, he asked Melissa about where the old man and his aide had gone, wanting to immediately swap them back.

“They left,” She explained, “But it was pretty interesting. For a very brief minute, they were both quite lucid. But aide in the old man’s body faded fast. The professor was able to escort her away. It’s a shame his brilliance is now restored, but it’s unlikely anyone will take him seriously as that cody hardly hasthe degrees or credentials associated with all those smarts.”

“But we have to...” Neil was going to insist on finding them, but he was so tired that he could barely stand. Swapping people was taking a lot out of him.

My Own Mother!?

“Why the hell would you do this, Mom?” An angry Sam asked, “Why would you swap bodies with my girlfriend Erica?”

“Because I said it was okay,” Erica interjected from behind Sam, “She seemed like she could use a break from the aches of her older body. I can tell you from my experience over the past week it’s not pleasant.”

“A week?” Sam said shocked, “But the things we did...you mean I did them with my own mother!?”

“And we may have some more bad news. In order to swap back to normal, we need a third body. You’re going to have to swap back with one of us for a week.” His mom added.

“I’m going to have to pick between being my girlfriend or being my mom for a week to get you guys back to normal?” Sam groaned, “Maybe you both deserve to be stuck.”

The Virus

It had to be an attack on the store’s computer systems, Alvin was sure of it. He quickly rushed a terminal on the floor to try to figure it out despite the fact that he was now in the body of one of his own customers, a middle aged Asian man. In fact, the odd computer virus had affected everyone in the store, swapping their bodies with someone else in the store. No one seemed to panic; they all just seemed dumbfounded and somewhat amazed at the technology. One one of Alvin’s sides were two men from the local college, who were now in the bodies of two Asian women around the same age. They had been checking out video games, but were now searching the web about what they might need to know about their new gender if they just happened to be stuck like this. On Alvin’s other side, a man was swapped with his own father. The chaos continued like that throughout the store. Alvin only hoped he could reverse the virus quickly and get everyone back to their own bodies.

Contract (Part 2)

After finishing his meal, Walter picked up his wine and quietly asked his security to escort Jane out. He always enjoyed seeing his former body, but Jane always overstayed her welcome. The conversation always turned to her begging to get her body back, which Walter found exhausting.

Giving Jane five million dollars to swap bodies was the best money he ever spent. He loved being young and female and thanks to the ironclad contract, this body would be his forever. The money was a simple drop in the bucket from the billions he had, and he had assumed the five million would be life changing for Jane as well.

Maybe it was, but he never heard about it. She was always complaining about how his old body ached or how much she missed her body. Walter simply didn’t care. A deal was a deal.

Contract

“Honestly, Jane, I’m not sure what you’re complaining about,” Walter said as he enjoyed his dinner, “Do you not enjoy your five million dollars? Are you having trouble spending it all?”

“It’s not that,” Jane whined, “I miss my body. I want it back.”

“I’m afraid that’s quite impossible. You signed the contract. You deposited the money. So we swapped bodies per the arrangement. Legally, your body is mine now. I understand you may not like being old -- I certainly didn’t enjoy it myself -- but that is precisely the reason I paid such a premium to swap with a young person. You should learn to take the fullest advantage of what I’ve paid you and live your final years to their fullest.”

Jane frowned. She regretted taking the money to swap bodies with Walter. She thought money would be the solution to all her problems. But she missed being young and being a woman. However, it didn’t seem like she could say anything to convince Walter to swap back with her.
