Justin felt a little bad at first about annoying the woman whose body he now inhabited, but he also started to feel a little freedom from it as well. After all, if she was too angry to talk about this, then she couldn’t place restrictions on him either.

He could basically do whatever he wanted for the time being.

And, for now, what he wanted to do was shop more. It was a weird impulse, and he didn’t quite understand it -- but looking at pretty clothes and trying some on felt like the perfect thing to do in this situation. And it also felt like a great way to explore his new self without being too invasive; she may not have placed restrictions on him, but he could still be respectful!

Patience

Maura watched her former body walk by. It was predictable at this point. It was same time every day, and she wanted to jump out and scream at it. She wanted to demand her body back, or at least get an explanation about why it was stolen from her in the first place. But she had chickened out so far usually after looking in the mirror or down at her current hands.

She now had the body of a rather large and burly man, and she knew exactly what shouting at her former body would look like to anyone else in the neighborhood. They’d call the police.

So she needed to wait until her body was walking here when no one else was around. It was a game of patience. And so far she had been good about it, but it was hard to hold back. She really needed to know why her body was stolen.

Secret Lab

After my parents passed away, my sister and I went back home to clean out their house. We found a strange hatch in the basement that lead to a secret underground lab. We wondered if Mom and Dad were secret scientists, or maybe it belonged to a person that lived in the house long before. Either way, there were all sorts of weird stuff down there, and despite the cobwebs, all of it still seemed to work.

It was sister messing around with things that had turned the lights on; it was also her messing around with things that activated another device down there -- the one that ended up swapping our bodies. I sat there on the floor inside the body of my own sister for I don’t know how long before I was finally able to shout at her, telling her to try everything to switch us back. But nothing she tried worked. We seemed to be stuck...

Escaped

“You said to call if there’s a problem,” Adam said as he picked up the phone, “So, yeah, there’s a problem. My body escaped.”

Adam listened for a while to his professor on the other end of the phone. Then he finally had no choice but to cut him off. Adam explained, “I’m not so worried about her running around in my body. I’m worried about not having my body here to be able to swap back.”

He listened a little more, but interrupted quicker this time. “What do you mean that wasn’t the plan?” He asked, “You can’t seriously mean that you meant to swap Melissa and I for good? Is that what you promised her? Is that why she ran off? Because that’s not what I agreed to!”

Mother Earth

I died. Or I thought I did. Or, perhaps, more accurately, I was murdered. I’ll spare you the details, but it involved the mob and mistaken identity; and I found myself buried alive.

I wasn’t sure exactly how long I was dead, but I obviously didn’t know what it felt like. The thing I remember was the rebirth. The roots, themselves taking offense at my murder, were the ones to bring me back. They infused me with something, some sort of natural magic. It was this feeling in my veins that awoke me from death.

And while this magic brought me to the surface, it also changed me. It gave me the power to manipulate all plant life, but it also changed my form. I had gone from being male to female, the personification of Mother Earth itself. Nothing about this upset me. In fact, being a completely unrecognizable gender would allow me to get close enough to get revenge on those who had wronged me.

Item

Picking up the strange item up off the floor, it began to transform Brian almost instantly. He quickly became slender, his hair grew out, his form changed. Then he felt the burning in his hand, and it dropped to the floor. He reached down to pick it up again, but it had vanished -- but he was forever changed.

Of course “he” wasn’t exactly a he anymore after the magic item had transformed him. Going from a portly man to a beautiful woman wasn’t exactly something he thought would happen to him today -- and he had no idea how to navigate a completely new identity -- but it was certainly a twist in his day.

Cooler

“Oh, thank God! Jake! I’ve been looking all over for you! But I think you’ve been skipping your classes, and they don’t let you into the dorms without a Student ID!”

Jake was a little put off by the woman who had approached him at the bar. She had to be like 50 years old and rambling in some sort of crazy manner.

“I’m sorry,” Jake asked, “Do I know you?”

“It’s me!” The woman replied, “Your roommate! Max! This woman stole my body, like, three days ago!”

It seemed crazy, but Jake had noticed Max had been acting different these last few days. That being said, it’s not like he felt it was for the worse. The new Max actually seemed cooler, and what did Jake even know about helping someone with a body swapping problem anyway?

At the Door

The doorbell rang in the apartment, then it rang again. When it rang a third time, Shannon finally checked to see who was there. It was her. Or rather, it was the body she used to have. But it didn’t make any sense. When she had stolen Peter’s body, she had removed every memory of who he once was. There was no way he could remember he slightest notion of ever being Peter, let alone a detail like where he used to live.

“I know you’re home,” Shannon heard her own voice say from the other side of the door. “I’m not leaving. You owe me answers.”

Shannon looked back out the peephole again. Her former body looked exhausted. Whatever Peter had done to regain his memory likely wore him out. But she was still too afraid to answer the door, and certainly too afraid to answer for what she had done.

INT 5

Eldric still couldn’t believe he had fallen victim to another wizard’s spell in battle. Luckily, the fighter in his party dispatched of the foe in short haste after that, but Eldric was dealing with the results of the curse that had turned him into a blonde bimbo.

The fact that the curse had made him female didn’t bother him in the slightest. He knew women in the realms were just as versed in every facet of skill as the men. It was the fact that the curse had also dropped his INT down to 5 that was giving him concern.

Intelligence was the most important skill for a wizard, and even things like remembering his own name were often a challenge. Reading was out of the question. And casting spells? Well, he tried, but remembering those big words right was even more difficult than remembering his own name. He hoped the rest of his party could find a way to break this curse!

New Look

Tammy would not have been my first choice as someone to swap bodies with -- heck, if I had my choice I wouldn’t have swapped bodies at all -- but that’s not how the Great Shift worked. It was random; it was chaos; it did not care your preference or choice; it just swapped you. And that’s how I went from tech bro to hippie chick.

Okay, technically I still considered myself a tech bro; I just happened to look like a hippie chick still because I had been stuck wearing Tammy’s clothes. But I hoped that would change today.

The town had organized a big swap meet today where people could just put out things that they no longer wanted or didn’t fit -- which, as you can imagine, was quite extensive post-Shift. I hoped to find a new look for this body.

Mirrored

The swirling mirror in Rory’s room was hypnotic and alluring. He reached his arm out and found it went straight through the mirror as if nothing was there. His curiosity was piqued; what was on the other side?

And so he stepped through.

On the other side, things were very different. Not only was his room reversed, his body had changed as well -- he was a woman! He supposed that was the opposite of what he was, but it wasn’t exactly a reflection. He went back for the mirror, but the swirl was fading; the mirror was once again solid and impassable. He was going to stuck like this in this strangely reversed world.

Double Date (Part 2)

While John and Chloe lightly complained to their friends in public, the merge had actually been nothing short of a nightmare for them. Their internal monologue was a mess of confusion and contradiction. The bra and heels were just the start of complaints. Nothing fit right; nothing felt right. Somehow the merge made them feel like everything was both familiar and foreign at the same time.

This turbulent period lasted several months before it finally died down. But a new problem started to emerge. The Merge was supposed to connect John and Chloe as a single person, to be with your loved one forever, and never be lonely. But their sense of two distinct selves was long gone, and the merged being now felt alone. Should they start dating again? Was that even a possibility? Would anyone want to be with this strange, confused individual?
