Curved

My reflection after the Great Shift made me want to cry. It felt like I was looking in a funhouse mirror, but -- nope, just a normal mirror. I mean, I knew I swapped into the body of a woman, and I knew women had curves, but this was ridiculous. They seemed way more extreme than I could ever remember seeing on a real person -- except they were on a real person now, and that person was me.

I wondered if she has some sort of implants on the various parts of her body or if she had her waist narrowed. Would there be any way to tell? Could I look for scars or something? I hadn’t found any so far, but maybe they were just some place not so visible; I wasn’t going to ask anyone else to look, because I didn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea.

I hated this. I just wanted to go back to being a guy, but I knew that wasn’t an option.

Gaming Skills

Brent had hated the results of the Great Shift. Swapping into the body of a middle aged woman was bad enough, but realizing his gaming skills in this body were terrible made it that much worse. At first, he tried to blame it in the fact that he wasn’t used to the fatter fingers or the nails; he told himself he’d get used to the differences of his new body. But months passed, and he was still terrible at games he once dominated at.

He began to come up with other theories. Maybe the fact that she was older was a factor; maybe these fingers just couldn’t move in the way his younger ones could. Of course, his friends online joked it was because “girls just naturally suck at gaming.” The comment made him angry, especially once they started to get vulgar. He was more determined than ever to show them that he could still play.

Feet

Daniel was confused. One minute he was watching the livestream of influencer, and the next minute he was on the other side of stream and inside her body. He didn’t quite know what to say to keep things going as he watched a few messages of concern. Then he noticed a few more messages from guys saying rather disgusting things and offering to pay for one thing or another. A fairly common ask was to see her feet with offers ranging from five dollars up to a hundred.

Daniel felt so weird about this, though he didn’t exact see much harm in showing her feet and maybe getting some extra cash for it. That is, until he looked down at her feet. They weren’t exactly what he expected, and he wasn’t sure if they were what the guys on the livestream expected either. They were sort of gnarly and gross, like being shoved into high heels too many times or too much ballet dancing.

Then again, maybe he should get that cash and give them exactly what they asked for...

Addiction

Jessica didn’t feel all that weir about swapping bodies at first. Sure, she was a male -- and could perhaps use a shower -- but she felt normal enough. That is until she heard the sound of her own voice screaming. She ran around the corner to see her body trying to scratch its own skin off.

“Get it off, Man! It’s not real!” Jessica’s body screamed.

Of course, seeing Jessica only freaked out whoever was in her body more. “Why do you have my face, Man!?” Jessica’s body screamed.

She looked at the way her former body shook. As a social worker, she knew the signs. The man was an addict, and (perhaps strangely) that seemed to all pass into her body when they swapped. After all, Jessica was in his body and didn’t seem to feel any of it at all. Then again, seeing her own body act this way was highly disturbing.

Weekend Farmer's Market

The Farmer’s Market often had some strange vendors. Amongst the fruit and veggie stands, it wasn’t uncommon for there to be a fortune teller or a tarot card reader. Everyone knew they were scams, of course, but they were still fun. We laughed off the old guy in a wizard costume claiming to be able to do actual magic.

We stopped laughing when he started swapping people’s bodies. I went from being a hippie stoner guy in my 20s to a woman in her 30s. We all begged him to switch us back, but I guess he was pretty hurt by how much we had laughed at him.

So we were all stuck...at least for now. I got all the details about my new body. I was thankful she was single and that she could take a few personal days off from work.

We all just hoped he’d be back to the Farmer’s Market next week and that he’d rethink his grudge against us. Until then, I walked back to her home, feeling weird about my borrowed body the entire time.

Normal

Adam understood why people wanted to get out, go to a bar, see a concert, or whatever. What weirded him out was how normal everyone was acting. It was like a massive body swapping event didn’t just affect everyone on the planet a few weeks ago -- which it most certainly did.

It’s how he ended up as a woman -- something he was desperately trying to hide by shaving his head and wearing baggy clothes. Of course those things didn’t make him any taller, nor make his voice any deeper. It also didn’t change anything under those clothes. He hoped people couldn’t tell, but he was pretty sure they could. He thought there would be more like him, fighting what his new body was like; yet it all seemed so...normal.

Hot? Younger?

Jacob looked around. It was clear he wasn’t the only one who had swapped bodies. Many had already rushed to see their new reflection in a window, but Jacob wasn’t sure he wanted to.

He had read stories online about body swapping, and people always ended up in hot, younger bodies of the opposite gender. That’s clearly not what happened to Jacob. Though he was certainly the opposite gender now, words like “hot” and “younger” didn’t seem to apply. Even without looking, he knew he was now older. He also certainly felt heavier than he had been.

He supposed this as mathematically likely as anything -- and with a possibility that it could have been worse -- but it wasn’t what those stories online had promised! That’s for sure!

Key

It seemed like a typical cliche key party. A bunch of couples putting their car keys in a bowl at the start of the night with the expectation of picking up a different set on the way out and going home with that person’s significant other.

It wasn’t like that at all.

Instead, it was some of weird swapping party. I recognized the keys I picked out the bowl -- a Toyota SUV belonging to a friend of mine. I was fully expecting to go home with his wife, Suki. I was not expecting to swap into Suki’s body.

As it turned out, few people were curious about being adventurous immediately after finding themselves as a different gender in a new body.

A few friends who had also been at the party joined me the next day to watch the game. It was a welcome break to not have to think about our new bodies, and for some reason we all thought we were going to swap back that night for some reason.

That didn’t happen. Two weeks later, we were sill stuck.

Running Out of Money

I was starting to run out of money. Or, technically, I guess Susan was running out of money. Taking a cab multiple times a day for the better part of two years will do that to you. But what alternative did I have? I didn’t want to be Susan; it was just the Magic Taxi that swapped me into her body, and I knew of no other ways body swapping was even possible.

Heck, I didn’t even know the Magic Taxi was a thing until I swapped into the driver’s body. I thought I was going to be stuck like that until I swapped with Susan. I had to deduce it was the cab that did it, as nothing else seemed to be the cause of the swap. If I could find it again, I could swap again -- and maybe if I was really lucky, I could then use it to get my original body back.

A Good Laugh

As Andre tried to explain the body swap to his girlfriend shortly after it happened, he wasn’t sure if she was laughing because she believed him or because she didn’t.

If she believed him, she was certainly amused that her boyfriend was now stuck in the body of some old, white lady from the suburbs. If she didn’t, she was certainly getting a kick out of seeing what she thought was an old, white lady under a delusion about being a 25-year-old black man (and her boyfriend).

Andre wished she would at least stop laughing so hard to explain which one it was.

Hands (Part 1)

Michael was just pulling his car out of the driveway to head out on a week long business trip when it happened. He suddenly found himself back inside his own living room, sitting down on the couch. He lifted one hand.

It wasn’t his hand.

He recognized the hand. It was the one he had placed a ring on when he had gotten down on one knee to propose decades ago. It was the same hand that stopped wearing that ring after her hands had swollen up while pregnant with their first child twenty years ago.

How was he now have his own wife’s hand? How was he the one in control of it? The revelation hit slowly. It wasn’t just her hand.

Then he heard the crash.

Nefarious

The sudden swap jolted Aaron. He didn’t know why he had become a woman, but he didn’t want to waste any time trying to figure it out. His first thought was simply to go find his original body. However, he soon found standing with the heels on his feet difficult, and walking would likely be impossible.

The solution of simply changing shoes seemed obvious enough, but that option was blocked when he discovered the shoes firmly locked onto his feet. He was starting to think this swap might be more nefarious.

He tried not to be deterred by the locks. Maybe there was a key somewhere, or maybe he could find a knife or scissors to simply cut the boots off of his feet. Of course, moving around to find any of these things wouldn’t be easy....

Not Angry

“It’s pretty safe to untie me.” Jeremy said calmly, “I’m not angry about this body swap thing. I’m actually kind of happy about being in this body.”

“How do I know you won’t try to kill me?” The mad scientist replied. “No one is happy to have their brain transplanted into a different body.”

“Maybe I’m the first. And maybe you don’t have a reason to trust me, but are you really going to just leave me tied up forever? What was the long term plan here?”

“Fine. Just be patient...”

Investment (Part 1)

Junior often threw his inheritance around on poor investments, usually nerds with big promises and poor follow-through. So today, he had decided to do some surprise visits.

He brought his girlfriend Audrey along, and their first stop was a guy named Roger. Junior had invested close to a million dollars on Roger’s mind-brain machine -- whatever it was.

To Junior’s surprise, Roger explained the device was ready for testing, but two volunteers were needed. Junior pointed to Audrey and Roger and counted: one, two. Roger tried to protest, but Junior wouldn’t take no for an answer. He was paying for this, and he wanted to see results.

And so Audrey and Roger stepped into two pods in the warehouse, and after some lights and other stuff they stepped out. Both of them claimed they swapped bodies. But Junior was skeptical.

Roger in Audrey’s body laughed while trying to affirm the swap happened. Audrey in Roger’s body nodded meekly in agreement.

Stand There and Look Pretty

Ever since he was a kid, Ben had an interest in cars and dreamed of being a racecar driver. As he got older, he went to trade school and began working as a mechanic in his local shop; he still dreamed of working for the pit crew of a famous driver. Really, he always wished to be closer to that world. And then it happened one day in most unexpected way possible.

He was at home when it happened. When his vision blurred and it felt like he passed out. He was still standing though when his senses returned. The first thing he noticed was the scent of motor oil. Then the sounds or a track, and he could tell he was in the center of it. But he wasn’t in his own body, or any mechanic’s body; he wasn’t a racer either.

No, he swapped bodies with a pit babe. Being in the center of the action was certainly a thrill, but no one wanted to listen as he tried to explain his skills. His new job was clear: stand there and look pretty.

Karaoke Room (Part 2)

View Part 1 of Karaoke Room.

I didn’t think to look up right away after it happened. I probably should have. I guess my bros didn’t either. When we finally did, we soon realized we were all in the same situation. I immediately recognized their clothing, but their faces took me a minute.

“They checked in right after us. They’re in the next room.” I said finally realizing who we were, my voice sounding sweet and feminine with a slight accent -- though I couldn’t pull any useful language from my memory to go along with that accent.

“Yeah, the Asian chicks. I think I’m the cute one,” Pete said, still wearing his hoodie.

“They all look the same to me,” Nick replied.

“Dude, don’t be racist!”

“It’s not racist! I’m Asian now! It’s fine.”

They were both clearly as drunk as I was.

Gossip

I guess the news had dropped on one of those gossip sites while I was in transit. It was true, of course, but any time a reporter got close enough to ask me with a microphone I denied it.

Body swap? Of course not!

Was I actually a man in the body of a famous supermodel? Do you know how stupid you sound?

How did it happen? What sort of sci-fi bullsh*t tech do you think exists where body swapping is real?

It was easy to dismiss them. Body swapping did still seem insane and impossible. Yet I was living proof it could actually be done, I just didn’t want any of THEM to know that.

Mixed (Part 1)

As I watched the blue glow fade into the distance, I knew it wasn’t coming back. I don’t know how I knew that; it was sort of similar to how I was the only one who noticed the changes it caused -- and now those changes were done. Whatever purpose it had in mixing my roommate up in the way it had, it was done with us now.

And Zuri and I were definitely mixed up. It had simply swapped our bodies at first -- and that was weird enough -- but then it started giving things back to me. My eyesight changed first when I got my original blue eyes back with their perfect 20/20 vision. Then my hair became blonde and more wispy -- it was inexplicably still able to maintain Zuri’s curls and style. Then it gave me back my pale skin while I maintained Zuri’s Black features. I saw the opposite changes on my body that Zuri now possessed -- though as I mentioned, I was the only one who noticed any of this.

I hoped it would continue changing us back, but that’s when it stopped. Obviously, I was stuck as a woman now, but I had no idea how to even begin to describe my new racial identity; maybe that was the exact thing the blue glow was trying to figure out...
