The Return (Part 3)

After several minutes of questions, the doctor proceeded to bring a needle to Jack’s arm.

“I’m just going to take some blood,” He said, “But I’ve got to be honest...”

The doctor paused, prompting Jack to ask, “Yes? What?”

The doctor sighed, “It’s unlikely that I’ll find anything. I’m not even sure exactly what I’m looking for. Even if I did, I’m not sure any of the equipment available to me in this clinic would allow me to find it. We’re operating on some pretty bare bones technology here. There’s even less of a chance of being able to help you with your condition.”

It was Jack’s turn to sigh, “I’m okay with being a woman. I just need to be able to claim my life. I need to be able to say I am who I say I am. Is there a chance you can medically help me prove that?”

The Lens

Thomas felt like kicking himself for his stupidity. A strange witch had given him an odd device that looked like a small lens. She told him he use it to become anyone he viewed through it. Thinking it was a bit of a joke while still satisfying his curiosity, he looked though the lens at a woman. In an instant, he felt strange and he realized he now had the woman’s bob haircut brushing his shoulders. He pants shortened and he now wore her jean shorts. In fact, he had become a complete copy of this woman as she walked away without noticing that Thomas was now her double. He enjoyed spending some time on the other side of the gender fence for a few hours, but he soon wanted to get back to normal. There was only one problem: How would he be able to look at himself through the lens, especially with his transformed body? He tried photographs to no avail, and it wasn’t long before he attempted something drastic, sculpting an image of his own head. He had always been quite artistic, so he knew he could do it. But would it work with the lens?

No Limits

Mario had spent the last three days repairing his invention. The glass dome over one of the pods had shattered with his last test. Despite the damage, he had considered his prior test to be a complete success. After all, it had swapped his body with the young woman he had hired to experiment on. She had no idea that she’d end up in his body as a result, but he hardly cared. It was all in the name of science! Even once he fixed this up, he had no intention of switching back with her. On the contrary, he had plans to swap himself into an even better body! No sense in moving back down the ladder! With a body switching machine like this, the sky would be the limit!

Poker Face (Part 1)

“I don’t think any of us can complain about the results of The Great Shift.” Marty asked.

“For a couple old men like us? Certainly not! I guess we have to deal with being women now, but we’re young again! We’ve got a second lease on life, and you really just can’t get any better than that.” Warren replied.

“What about the young women now in our bodies? Don’t you ever feel bad for them?”

“Why should I? It’s not like I’m the one responsible for The Great Shift, but I am going to enjoy it’s benefits to the fullest! Now place your bet. Let’s keep this poker game going!”

Beta Testing

“Hello? Customer Service? Yes, this is James Collins. My company was testing the Beta version of your new software and something strange happened -- we all swapped bodies. I switched with Melissa Jacobs, our art director. Wendy Bishop and Michael Kent, our sales team, have also been switched. Yes, I can hold...”

There was a long pause.

“Yes, this is James. I’m still on the line. What do you mean you don’t offer support for programs in Beta? How are we supposed to switch back? Hello? Are you still there? Hello?”

Short

Richard sighed as he picked up the shorts. They were entirely too short, and they were also probably going to very tight. But what choice did he have? It had been two days since the Great Shift placed him into the body of an unknown woman. He had been stuck in the same set of clothes for the past 48 hours. He knew he needed to find things to change into. The stores were al closed due to the chaos caused by a massive body swapping event. He didn’t have any female friends to contact, so he knew he’d have to depend on the odd sales he had been seeing on the side of the road. He guessed the sales were either people finding themselves in new bodies and figuring they didn’t need their old wardrobe anymore or someone who found themselves in a new body surrounded by more clothes than they knew what to do with. He reluctantly bought the shorts. He had found a shirt earlier, but he knew now that next he would have to go look for underwear, and that was something he was not looking forward to.

Mathematics (Part 2)

Dave spent a few more hours at the chalkboard to no avail before he finally called Andrea over. In the short time since the two swapped, she had improved his appearance greatly. He had to admit that she made his normally nerdy body look quite cool. Maybe he’d ask for some tips once they returned to normal. He proceeded to show her his work.

She looked blankly at it for a moment before responding, “What do you want me to do about this?”

“Can you figure out the missing variables?” Dave asked.

“It’s beyond me. It’s just...beyond me.”

“Please try! The solution might not be in my head anymore! It might be in my brain’s chemistry, which you currently possess! Please think about it!”
