Reassignment (Part 1)

It was the one day each year everyone dreaded. They went to bed hoping they wouldn’t be among the few selected. Lewis had gone to bed that night without many worries, but the changes to his body were unmistakable once he awoke: He had been reassigned.

Looking at his new body in the mirror, he wondered if the person he had swapped with had tried to get up early to try to avoid being switched. She had rollers in her hair and her makeup was fully done. Reassignment didn’t care if you were awake or asleep, however.

Lewis spent the next hour packing a small bag. He knew representatives from The Company would be arriving soon. When the two men in suits came, they instructed that he wasn’t allowed to bring anything from his former life with him. He left the bag and pulled out a single record, holding it close and begging the two men that he be allowed to keep it. They just shook their heads, pried the record from his hands, and dragged him to the van to be taken to the Reassignment Center.

Back in Time

“So, the secret ingredient that will send us back to the future and back to our own bodies is turnips?” Luke asked.

Doug smiled, “I think so. I mean, it’s a lot more difficult to research in this time period without the internet.”

“It’s not like the internet was that helpful with your research back in our own time.”

“Hey, the magic spell worked as promised. It sent us back in time into the bodies of one of our relatives. I just didn’t expect it to be female relatives. At least we’re young!”

“Even if I’m in a young version of my grandma, it’s still my grandma, and it’s still weirding me out.”

New Model

As Zach walked up and down the runway to practice his balance in heels, he was beginning to think he might actually pull this whole thing off. He still wasn’t sure how the website had swapped his body with Monette, but the count down clock seemed to indicate they wouldn’t be switching back to their own bodies for at least a week. Monette was an aspiring model, and she had her first big name show in two days. Once she had switched bodies with Zach, she had to beg him to do it in her place. He was reluctant at first, but he ultimately decided that having a hot model owe him a big favor certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing. With each walk down and back, he switched into a different pair of Monette’s shoes -- having the heels get progressively higher each time. He was pretty sure he’d be able to handle her show and started to look forward to swapping back once the clock counted down. However, neither of them realized that the clock wasn’t the amount of time left until they could swap back, it was the amount of time they had left before being stuck in their new bodies permanently.

Service Industry

Henry and the other guys at the brokerage where he worked would often hit up a sushi restaurant after work. It was on one evening when the service was particularly slow that Henry’s big mouth got him into trouble. He started complaining and it got out of hand quickly. He loudly accused several waitresses of being illegal immigrants. He also said the only reason they worked in the low paid service industry was because they were lazy. The owner overheard the abuse. She knew the service was slow due to the dinner rush. She wasn’t going to tolerate Henry treating her employees so poorly, so she decided to teach him a lesson.

In the middle of one of his shouts, Henry went quiet, the whole restaurant did. Suddenly, he found himself standing on his feet with a pen in his hand. Instead of barking, he was being barked at, but all he could do was nod and write down what the person speaking to him was saying. It didn’t take him long to realize he was in the body of one of the waitresses!

He wanted to scream and walk off the job, but he just couldn’t stop himself from obediently taking orders and serving tables. It wasn’t until the end of his shift several hours later that he was able to finally sit down. His feet were killing him. The owner walked over and stood next to him with a smirk.

“You think this job is easy?” She told him, “You think you can do better? I pay most of my staff well, but not you. You’ll be making minimum wage. All my staff speak perfect english, but you’ll soon be finding your knowledge of it to be quite limited. And while I assure you that all my staff are here legally; you’re own papers are now questionable at best. Let’s see how easy it is for you to escape.”

Neil continued to stare at his hands when he felt a strange vibrating. This woman’s phone was ringing. He shrugged as he picked it up, still not breaking his fascination with his hands.

“Thank God, Diane!” The voice on the phone said, “You need to rush back from lunch fast! Everyone here is acting crazy! I think you may be the only one who can control them.”

Neil could barely manage a few sounds, “Uh?”

“I don’t even know how to describe it! There are women feeling themselves up in their offices, grown men are crying like babies, a few people have been talking crazy about swapping bodies. It’s all a huge violation of company policy. As the star of HR, you need to show these people that their actions have consequences!”

“Well,” Neil replied, “There might be a problem. I think I’ve swapped bodies too! I am not Diane!”

“Not you too!” The voice screamed.
