Drowning

“Help! Help!” Jack screamed once he realized he was drowning in the lake. It didn’t make any sense. He was such an excellent swimmer, but suddenly he had just felt so disoriented.

“Help” He screamed one more time, expecting his lungs to fill with water any second. Instead, he found himself continuing to breathe air. In fact, he was no longer in the water at all but standing on the shore instead. He was confused, and when he looked down it only got worse. He realized the body he now saw wasn’t his own.

Soon enough, a person came along to investigate Jack’s earlier cries for help, and asked Jack what was wrong.

“I guess I’m drowning,” Jack replied, “Or my body is drowning. It’s over there in the lake.

“You’re drowning?” The person asked.

“I was. I’m not...me. Not anymore, I guess. I really don’t know what’s going on...”
