It's My First Day

It was Joshua’s first day in the office. He was filling out the required tax forms and was told to make a copy of his ID. He placed his driver’s license down on the glass of the photocopier and pressed the start button. The paper it spat out had an image of a woman on it. He picked it up to look at it, noticing the long nails of his hand. Glancing at his reflection in the nearby glass, he could see his body had changed -- becoming the woman printed on the paper.

Convinced he was having some of nervous panic attack on his first day, he pressed the start button a few more times. Each time he did so, a different woman’s image was printed on each page, and each time his own body transformed to match.

“You need to stop using the office copier for your personal use, Shawntel,” He heard a man’s voice say to him, “I won’t tell on you, but you gotta grab your copies and go back to your desk.”

Joshua nervously picked up the pages that he had copies. He wanted to ask “Who’s Shawntel?” But it was obvious he was. He looked through the pages as well. Instead of being all different women, they now all matched the face he currently had.

The man who had scolded him about the use of the copier picked up the ID off the glass and gave it to Joshua as well. Sure enough, it was actually an ID for Shawntel. Joshua wanted to warn the man about the machine, but he was in such shock, he didn’t have time. But when the man pressed start and tried to copy, nothing happened. “I think you may have jammed it,” The man told Joshua, “We’ll have to call IT...”
