After One Week

Kristie told Mark that they’d swap their bodies back at the end of the week, though she was pretty sure he’d be begging to swap back on day two. She was actually a little surprised that she didn’t have a voicemail or a text or something from him by day three.

However, Mark wasn’t about to beg any time soon. In fact, quite the opposite -- on the second day, he brought a baseball bat to the warehouse where the device that swapped their bodies was. Then he started smashing.

It was a safe assumption that when Kristie returned to the warehouse at the end of the week, she’d be shocked to find the device smashed into a million pieces. She’d probably end up equally surprised that Mark had completely run off with her body.

SwapCo

The man stormed into the SwapCo offices with his paperwork contained within a folder in his arms. The receptionist certainly recognized the man from the other day.

“What can I help you with?” The receptionist asked.

“Your service is a scam!” He spat out, “I paid thousands of dollars to swap bodies with this woman. I was supposed to wake up in as her this morning. But look at me! I’m still me!”

The receptionist took the photograph and his paperwork. She looked it over for a few minutes before handing it back to him.

“I hate to be the one to tell you this, but everything seems to be in order here.” She explained calmly, “Your service included an add on that allowed for the person swapped with to have no knowledge or memory of their original body.”

It was like a moment of realization lit up in the man’s eyes. He had certainly remembered purchasing that option. “So I’m not actually Nolan Johnson? I’m actually Ji Ae? I just don’t have any of my own memories; I have all of his instead? Including the memories of coming in here and purchasing the swap? That’s...that’s...” The thought of all this was troubling the man.

“I’m afraid what you can piece together beyond this point is nothing I can confirm,” The receptionist continued, “It would be a clear violation of our confidentiality clauses, but you are welcome to take a seat as you come to certain conclusions on your own.”

“Thank you,” The man said as he sat down and considered everything.

Orbed

Jason never exactly figured out how the orb worked, how it changed his life, and how he could never seem to use it again to return to normal.

But did he really want to go back to his old life as a divorced, middle aged man? Not really. The orb turning him into an in-demand supermodel who was often jetted off to many exotic locations for photoshoots was a far better life than the one he left behind.

He had held onto the orb for the longest time, wondering if he could ever figure it out. But he decided on his latest gig, it was time to finally let it go. So one night after a shoot, he went out to the beach, he took one last look as it started to glow, then he thre it into the ocean. Maybe someone else would find it; maybe they’d also end up with a life of their dreams.

Campsite

It was late by the time Bryce returned to the campsite. All of his friends had gone to sleep. He pondered waking them, but what was he going to tell them? The truth about how a magical being in the forest had transformed into this elf woman? Even he found that hard to believe, and it had actually happened to him.

He began to question why he even returned. Maybe he had done it just to see them one last time. It was like a way of saying goodbye without actually saying a word. He’d return to the other elves in seclusion in the forest, joining their secret society. It was stumbling upon their alcove that caused his transformation in the first place. He still had so many questions for them. Why a female, for instance?

Starting a Family

A few months ago, my wife and I had struggled to conceive. None of the doctors we saw could even explain why; most of them just told us we were probably just unlucky with our timing.

Then the Great Shift happened, where everyone in the world just swapped bodies with someone else. We thought it couldn’t be any worse, as we both found ourselves in the bodies of women. But after a few weeks, we began to talk about sperm donors when my wife realized that I hadn’t gotten a period yet. I hadn’t even thought about it; I hadn’t even realized that was something that would happen.

When we went back to the doctor to examine my new body, she found that I was actually two months pregnant. It was the sort of miracle that we never could’ve possibly imagined. We would become parents after all, even if the odd twist was that I would be the one giving birth.

We were, of course, somewhat worried that the woman whose body I was now in would come forward and want her baby. But now with the due date just days away, we hadn’t been contacted at all. She was out of the picture, and we were ready to start our family.
