Herschel was eating at his favorite Chinese restaurant when the Great Shift happened. Going from a 50 year old man to the 20 something female host at the restaurant was certainly a dramatic change for him. But while programs were set up to allow people to resume their former lives, Herschel ended up staying to work at the restaurant.
He had been going there since he was a boy. The man who ran it was now well into his 80s. Luckily, the old man hadn’t been swapped by the Shift as he was in the middle stages of dementia, not to mention frail and elderly. Basically, the only thing he did well anymore was cook. And it was his granddaughter that kept him going -- the granddaughter who worked as a host at their restaurant; the very same granddaughter Herschel now had the body of.
Herschel decided he wouldn’t tell the old man the truth; he wasn’t sure if the guy would’ve been able to understand what had happened. He just wanted to make the old man happy -- and that seemed to achieved by cooking and seeing his granddaughter. Herschel was happy to keep the business running smoothly for the old man, and he even started to learn the recipes. He had planned on resuming his life when the old man passed, but as time when on, he thought about picking up the family business instead.
