Uncanny

Given the Great Shift, the chaos of the hotel lobby was understandable. Still, Emily was able to find her former body without much effort. It was still pretty much in the same place where she had been before swapping bodies.

She wasn’t quite sure what to say to it, but what came out was, “Excuse me. That’s my body.”

The person inside said, “I’m sorry. I didn’t ask to swap into it. My name is Jackson.”

Jackson seemed polite; Emily didn’t trust him for a second.

However, she couldn’t place why. There was nothing about what he said or did that gave her any reason to think she couldn’t trust him, but maybe it was just because he was doing it all in her body. It wasn’t hearing her own voice or seeing her own body; it was the way he did it. He just made it move different in a way that was unsettling. It wasn’t like looking at a mirror or watching a video -- it was like gazing into the uncanny valley of yourself
