Avoid It

The first thing Lewis did after the Great Shift was cut his hair short. He told himself there had to be something he could do about being in the body of a woman, and -- quite honestly -- the short hair gave him some confidence back. It also got him thinking.

His new female body was skinny, but it was also quite rectangular. The chest was below average, which he was very thankful for. Maybe he could just bulk it up a little bit by working out. Sure, he’d technically still be a woman, but he didn’t have to act like one or look like one. At least, he could try his best to avoid it.

    Hi, Alicia.

Honestly, this is the first time I’ve written a comment on your blog, and—well, as a trans person who hasn’t yet started transitioning for personal reasons—I’d like to say something about your story, specifically about the character. I see myself reflected in the character (as a trans person who will eventually transition) and/or I see the trans community reflected in a broader sense:

Being of a certain gender, or having transitioned to one gender or another—as a trans person might—should not be an impediment to living authentically as oneself.

Furthermore, after undergoing a gender transition, one should be able to live authentically—in accordance with who one truly is—rather than being forced to act the way a person of a certain gender is expected to act.

    1. My head thinks a LOT about societal expectations when it comes to gender.
