Diet

Right before the Great Shift, Jonathan visited his doctor, who gave him some bad news. Jonathan knew he was overweight, but his doctor warned him that if he didn’t bring his weight down soon, he’d like be dead before 45. Considering Jonathan was already 40, he didn’t like this one bit. As he walked to his car, he thought about the long, difficult process of losing weight. Past attempts were always unsuccessful.

But something else happened on his way to the car. A strange flash of light hit him and swapped his body. He found himself in a completely different body. He was now 20 years younger, female, and (most importantly) a heck of a lot lighter. He returned to his home overjoyed. This was the best, easiest diet he could’ve ever asked for. It wasn’t hard for him to embrace his new female form either, especially with a body that looked this good!

Restaurant

Pablo had been working as a bus boy for about a year now. The restaurant where he worked didn’t pay well, but it was enough. It was a miserable job that was often made worse by the owner, who liked to yell pretty much constantly, even when everyone was doing a great job. From time to time, the owner’s wife would come in instead. She was an Asian woman, about twenty years younger than the owner, and much, much nicer. Pablo often wondered what she saw in him. It was a particular relief when she showed up instead of him on busy weekend nights, as was the case on one particular Saturday.

After all the guests left late in the night, Pablo and the crew cleaned up. The owner’s wife continued to supervise. Then, just before they were done, something odd happened. A flash of blue light engulfed the restaurant. Suddenly, Pablo realized things were very different.

He had swapped bodies with the owner’s wife, and he was freaking out. He didn’t want to be a woman! And he didn’t want to go home to that brutish guy! She tried to calm Pablo down, giving him some strategies to fake being her and deal with her husband. She was sure they’d find a way to swap back, and he hopefully wouldn’t have to deal with this for too long. Pablo was less sure of all that...

By the time prom rolled around at the end of the year, the four nerds had gotten very used to their new bodies and being female. Putting on fancy dresses and makeup for the big night felt like second nature at that point. With graduation around the corner, they knew it should be a happy night, a night of celebration, but they all had another thought in the back of their heads. They knew that when they went off to college, the chances of getting back to their original bodies would diminish. Despite growing very used to being popular and female, there was something terrifying about knowing that they wouldn’t be seeing their former bodies around anymore. It would cement who they were now in way that hadn’t quite felt so permanent until this point.

At lunchtime, the four nerdy friends met back up. They had each had a relatively similar experience. It seems that it didn’t matter how geeky they dressed these bodies up, the natural attractiveness of the bodies won out. No one ignored them; jocks that had previously been bullies were now acting friendly. A few of the other popular girls gushed at their “geek chic” style. It was weird hearing endless praise from the same people who used to torment them. They didn’t know if they were ever going to be able to swap back into their own bodies, but now they were starting to think that they didn’t want to...

Henry and his friends didn’t know much about being women. When they had first swapped, they had help from Melinda and her friends. But the next morning while they were getting ready for school, they were on their own. It was pretty easy for the guys’ inner nerdiness to shine right through their new beautiful bodies. Henry was sure that Melinda often turned more than a few heads when she arrived on the grounds in the morning; he had a feeling he was doing to exact same thing for very different reasons. He met up and stayed close to his other swapped friends, but he was sure he heard whispers and giggles from his classmates. All he ever wanted was to be ignored and left alone. That was hard when he was a shy, lonely boy, but now that he was in the body of a popular girl, it was impossible.

Bullied (Part 2)

The screams settled down soon enough with each group of friend staring vacantly at the other. Henry took a deep breath. He knew the name of the girl whose body he was now in, Melinda. He doubted that she knew his name. He made a slow move to continue changing out of her gym clothes. She freaked out at first, but quickly she and the others realized they had a vested interest in getting these guys changed soon as possible. Henry, Max, Thomas, and Chung soon had all sorts of hands helping them get into outfits and put on makeup. When they got back into the school hallways, they all continued to stare at each other, still in disbelief of what had happened. The girls were quite devastated that they were now in the bodies of nerdy boys. The boys had no idea how they were going to deal with being in the bodies of popular girls..

Bullied (Part 1)

No one would ever claim that being a nerd in school was easy. It was something that Henry had to remind himself of every day. He thought things were going well when the popular kids simply left him alone. Today was not one of those days.

He was discussing D&D with a three of his friends in the hallways between classes. Henry felt someone grab him. He tried to struggle free, but he wasn’t strong enough. He knew it was one of the bullies, but he couldn’t see who. Before he knew it, he was being brought into the gym and being thrown into the women’s locker room. He heard three thuds and looked back to see other bullies had thrown in his friends, Max, Thomas, and Chung right after him. Then he heard screams and looked up to see four of the most popular girls in school changing out of their gym clothes. Then things got really weird.

It was silent for a minute. It felt like time was standing still, except things were still moving, but moving in ways that no one in the room could describe. Then the screams continued, but for very different reasons. The four girls found they had swapped bodies with the nerds and were rightfully freaking out. The four nerds weren’t fairing much better now that they were in the bodies of the girls...

Muse

Sophia was pretty sure she found the love of her life. When she met Abe two weeks ago, he called her his muse and insisted that she come live with him in his studio. Dating an artist felt like an exciting whirlwind for Sophia, but Abe was quick to bore. In fact, Sophia was his third “muse” in the past two months. He regularly went through a cycle of making a woman swoon, convince her to buy him a few things or pay the rent, dump her, then repeat the process. He didn’t even feel any emotion about it any more; it had become routine and calculated.

He knew the day that he was going to dump Sophia. All the bills were due on the first, so the second would be perfect. He never expected to wake up that morning with his body swapped with hers! But instead of freaking out about it, he just put on one of her black tops and squeezed into a pair of her leather shorts. He waited patiently for her to awake before he delivered the news.

Sophia was shocked. She couldn’t believe Abe was breaking up with her; it was even weirder that he seemed unphased by the fact that they had swapped bodies. She ran out of the studio crying.

Abe stood in front of one of his canvases as she ran out. He thought about what he was going to do now; he really didn’t know. Might he actually stop getting bored after dating someone for a few weeks now that he was a woman? Or maybe he could grift some really rich men with this cute body? It seemed quite interesting to think about, and soon he could actually try...

Soul (Part 3)

Jason wasn’t sure what he was going to do now, but he didn’t want to stick around to see the police and paramedics examine his dead body. He began to walk away, stumbling at first on the heels. Why did this woman have to be wearing heels? He knew it was going to be something he’d have to get used to. He kept repeating in his head “heel, toe, heel, to,” hoping that he wouldn’t trip up. He didn’t know where he was going or what he was going to do, but he did know he had so much to learn.

Soul (Part 2)

Jason folded his arm over his stomach, feeling a churning in there after seeing his own body die. But the sickness in his belly coupled with the movement of his arms gave way to a basic realization; very real physical feelings must mean he was still very much physically there. And that’s when he really couldn’t believe it.

He had just seen him own body die because he was now in someone else’s body; the body of a woman who had been standing on the sidewalk.

The churning in his stomach got worse.

He couldn’t believe he was someone else now; he couldn’t believe he was a woman! Had his soul consciously picked this body when it jumped out of his own? What happened to her own soul? He tried to see if he could think real deep to find it inside his own head, but nothing came up. He couldn’t even think hard enough to know her name or where he lived. All he could think of was that he name was Jason, which he doubted anyone would believe if he told them that, and information about his life before being squashed by a bus.

Soul (Part 1)

Jason stood frozen at the sight he just witnessed. He had just seen his own body struck by a bus. It didn’t even seem possible. He wasn’t aware that the bus was there until he clearly saw what was his body getting hit. It almost seemed like his soul was fully aware of the danger and stepped out of the way without having his body follow. Of course, even if he managed to save his soul, his body had just died. In which case, how was his soul still hanging around?

Jason had been putting most of the pieces together pretty well. Just as he was about to get hit, his soul jumped from his body. What he hadn’t figured out yet was that his soul jumped from his body and into another one. His soul wasn’t just “hanging around,” it had found a new home.

Of course, one could forgive Jason for not realizing he was now a woman at first. After all, he had just seen his own body die, which is a lot to take in just by itself.

Shape

Ryan had been hitting the gym a little more often this year, hoping to get into shape. Unfortunately, this was not the shape he had hoped to get! It started as a pretty typical trip to the gym. He had gone for a run on the treadmill, which he often did. His slowly crept the speed up the machine up bit by bit. But then the thing jolted in a weird way, sending him flying back. He fell right into a woman walking by. He felt a bit of pain from the workout and a bit more from the impact, and after colliding with the woman, he felt like his body and hers were all tangled up. As he picked himself up from the floor, he soon came to realize exactly how accurate that description was. Something about the impact must have dislodged his soul from his body, because he was now in hers! He looked in the mirror, trying to keep calm, but all he could think about was how impossible this was. People don’t just randomly switch bodies! His own body still laid unconscious on the floor. He was hoping that it would wake up soon. He had no idea how he was going to deal with this without a little help.

Pushed Away

Jack couldn’t believe how well the night was going. He was sitting in the backseat of a cab making out with his girlfriend, Stephanie. He was sure that this was the night that she would take him back to her place and they would go all the way. It all seemed to be going so well, but as they exited the vehicle her attitude quickly changed. She pushed him away, telling him to get back in the cab, and go home. What he didn’t know was that as he drove home in the backseat, Jack was still technically in the cab with Stephanie; except that she was now driving in the front seat, having swapped bodies with the cab driver.

Meanwhile, back up in Stephanie’s apartment, the cab driver was checking out his new life. He had actually intended to swap with Jack, but a slight miscalculation caused him to switch with Stephanie instead. Mostly, he was glad to out of the body of the cab driver, though being a woman would certainly take some getting used to. The one thing he was sure he didn’t want to do on his first night as a new gender was get deflowered, which is why he sent Jack packing as soon as he could.

Blind Date

It was the third blind date that David had gone on that week. It wasn’t the worst of the three, but David didn’t think he’d be seeing her again any time again. She was cute, and he even liked her. There was just something about the evening; the two just didn’t click quite right. He just wanted to get back home, have one more drink, and then go to bed.

He poured himself a glass of wine and sat down at his kitchen counter. He was about halfway done when he felt strange. He reached his hand up to his head; there was suddenly a lot more hair than there was just a few seconds ago. He looked down at his legs. His pants were gone, replaced with bare legs and a skirt. And that skirt looked familiar. He recognized the entire outfit, but it still seemed impossible. He slowly walked over to the mirror to confirm his fears and got the shock of his life.

The face staring back at him belonged to the woman he had gone out of a date with tonight. He was expecting to never see her again, but now he was going to be seeing her every day.

No Matter

Dr. Kevin Marx was excited. His experiment had been a success; perhaps more than he could’ve ever imagined. The goal of his work for the past two decades had been the ability to transmit brain waves from one body to another, essentially a body swap. He had strapped into a chair in his lab, expecting to swap bodies with one of his assistants seated right next to him. Instead, his consciousness shot straight out of his lab -- straight out of the entire building -- and right into the body of a woman who had been walking outside. He realized he must have gotten a few calculations wrong, but the fact that he was now in someone else’s meant his core theories were correct! He was sure that it would take him some time to find his error. Until he did, he wouldn’t be able to control who he swapped with. He couldn’t take that risk. It didn’t matter much to him. He’d just continue to work in this body until he could correct any flaw. However, the prospect of waiting to swap back mattered very much to the woman he had swapped with.

Out of the Stall

Jerry walked into the men’s room and stood in front of the urinal. But before he could get a chance to use it, he was startled by a woman coming out of one of the stalls. She stuttered for a moment as she tried to explain that she wasn’t a woman, or rather she was a woman now, but she hadn’t been one just a few minutes ago. There was some sort of blue light, something about an alien and an experiment -- she couldn’t quite remember all the details. She did remember being a man. In fact, she remembered most of who she was except for her old name. She ran absent-mindedly into the bathroom, not really thinking about the gender written on the door. She also felt a strong desire she couldn’t explain, which of course was due to the Role Exchanger increasing the sex drive of this man’s new body by a thousand times.

Zero Guilt

Jason sat patiently on the bench as he waited for Claire. This was where they had agreed to meet in order to swap their bodies back, but he was beginning to think that she wasn’t going to show up. He really couldn’t blame her; he was thinking of not showing up himself. He had enjoyed every single moment since they first swapped bodies. He didn’t want to swap back at all, but he didn’t think it was fair to keep Claire stuck in his body either. He showed up for her. If she wanted her body back, she’d be able to get it. But if she was just ditching out, that means he could keep her body with zero guilt.

Mirror

Grant had spent the last fifteen minutes staring into the mirror. He lifted a hand to see the woman in the mirror do the same. This didn’t seem possible, but there was no way to ignore the physical evidence right in front of him. He had swapped bodies with another student on campus, a woman he had seen around. She always seemed to dress weird and have a scowl on her face. Except now that face was his; that body was his too!

Other people would enter and exit the bathroom, giving him a few strange looks, but otherwise seemed to be acting normally. He could only presume no one else had swapped bodies with anyone. Where had he been when he first noticed this. Wasn’t it just outside the science building? Could they be doing something really weird in there that could have caused this? It would seem to be worth investigating. He didn’t want to be stuck in this body!

Station

As Thomas left the train and stood on the station platform, he realized that he was probably quite lucky. Had he been traveling by car, he would’ve gotten into an accident for sure. But when the Great Shift struck while he was riding the train, the engine simply screeched to a halt on the tracks. The abrupt stop shook everyone up a bit, but it was a minor shock compared to the one that everyone got once they realized they had all swapped bodies. Thomas found himself in the body of a woman wearing silver leggings and a stripped top that had been sitting just a few rows in front of him. There was a lot of commotion and confusion for the next half hour, but then things began to settle down when the train started moving again. Thomas made sure to ask the person now in his body for the keys and wallet out of his pockets; he put them in the silver purse he now held. This reminded many other passengers to do the same, and a middle aged Asian woman asked for some things from the purse Thomas held. She seemed surprisingly calm about being in a new body, but Thomas felt a little bad. Her new body looked about ten to twenty years older than the one he now had, her former one. He knew none of this was his fault, but he still felt guilty. On the platform, he made sure to stop her to give her his phone number. She walked away with a silent smile. Thomas just stood there for a few more minutes, wondering how he was ever going to adjust to his new body.

Into the Crowd

Arthur looked back at the cab; it was still idling. He knew what the woman was feeling now that she was in the body of that weird cab driver. After all, getting stuck in that body was what had happened to him about three weeks ago. He thought he was going to have a choice about who to swap with, but it was almost like the cab chose for him. When she got into the cab, he just knew she’d be the one. She was so friendly and nice during the ride that he really didn’t want to steal her body, but he just couldn’t stop himself. A few short words as she left the taxi, and he swapped with her. He could only imagine how scared she felt. He wanted to tell her it would be okay, but the magic taxi wouldn’t allow that either. All he could do was try to give a knowing glance before disappearing into the crowd on the street.

Outside (Part 2)

Scott hoped that coming home would help him start to adjust to this new body. Instead, he was locked out, and when he stood up, he knew it was going to take a while to get used to being a woman. Everything just felt so different. He thought about going to her home, but he looked in her purse to find an ID. There was one, but the town listed was quite a long distance away. He could only guess he was a tourist or college student or something; regardless, finding where she lived wasn’t going to be an option.

The wind interrupted his thought process by blowing hair in his face. Long hair was one of the many things he didn’t like about this body. He brushed it aside, telling himself that he was going to chop it short when he had the chance.

Outside (Part 1)

It seemed reasonable enough. Scott headed home immediately after the Great Shift. Finding himself in the body of a stranger was odd enough, but he wished for the familiar comfort of home. But he didn’t quite think it all through. Being in a different body meant he no longer had his own pants, which had his keys in one of the pockets. His door was, of course, locked.

He sat outside for about an hour. He wasn’t sure why he waited. It’s not like he had a spare key. It’s not like his own body was likely just to wander past by chance. Should he go find a locksmith? Then again, he had no proof that he lived here. All he had was this woman’s body and her purse. He didn’t want to think about the body he now had; he just wanted to get inside and not think about it.

Disappointed (Part 2)

Mark crossed his arms uncomfortably over his body. He stared over his wife Susan, wondering why she had suggested they visit Exchange Island. He couldn’t believe he was going to be stuck in the body of a woman for the entire week! He thought Susan had it pretty lucky; she swapped with a body that wasn’t significantly different from her own. But then he noticed a smile start to come across her face. He could tell she was enjoying this. And based on the way she was smiling, he was pretty sure that she was enjoying the fact that he’d have to deal with being a woman. At the very least, it was going to be a very interesting vacation.

Disappointed

Susan had been looking forward to vacationing with her husband on Exchange Island for months. She couldn’t wait to spend a week in someone else’s body -- to be someone completely different for a while. But when they arrived, she was disappointed. The body she swapped with wasn’t much different than her own. It was the same body type and about the same weight as hers was. Even the skin tone and hair length were remarkably similar. Technically, she may have swapped bodies, but she wasn’t exactly going to be getting a whole new set of experiences while she was here. Then she looked over at her husband, and suddenly she didn’t feel disappointed as much anymore.

Skills

Chris was trying to do anything he could to get his mind off the fact that he had swapped bodies with his sister. He invited his friend, Todd, over to just chill and play some video games. It seemed like a good distraction, but Chris picked up the controller and tried to play. He couldn’t even seem to get passed the first level.

“Dude, what the hell is wrong with me?” He asked with a dropped jaw.

“I have a theory,” Todd replied, “You’re wearing makeup. How’d you put that on this morning?”

“I dunno. I didn’t even think about it. My sister just told me I have to wear it.”

“Right, it was effortless. I think you got more from your sister than just her body from that swap. You also have some of her learned skills...like putting on makeup. But she probably has your video game playing skills.”

“No way. This can’t be happening. If I can’t play games, what am I? And, if I know how to put on makeup, I’m just a chick! Not just the physical body, but I’m like a legit chick. God, if I start liking sappy romance movies or obsessing about shoes, just shoot me, please!”

It didn’t take Phillip too long to find his own car. Whoever ended up with his body had actually left it not far away with the keys in the ignition. Once he got in, Phillip became very aware of his new body when his feet didn’t reach the pedals. He was apparently a lot shorter now. As he adjusted the seat, he began to think of how far reaching this body swapping might have been. Was it just the city? Or did it affect the whole country? Or maybe the world? He thought about his ex-wife. He began to wonder if she had swapped and who she had swapped with. He sort of hoped she ended up swapping with a dog, if that was possibly. He chuckled at the thought of this, but he realized it probably sounded more like a bubbly giggle with the body he was now in and the pitch of his new voice. His new body was going to take some getting used to.

Phillip was only standing outside the car about a minute when a stout middle aged man approached.

“Thank God your okay, Honey!” The man said.

“Um...what?” Phillip laughed inquisitively.

The man’s hopeful face frowned, “If affected you too, didn’t it? You’re not actually my wife, are you?”

“i think it affected everyone.” Phillip paused as he put a few pieces together in his head, “Whoever wound up in your body parked the car safely before he ran off.”

“He didn’t leave any information?”

“No.”

“Well, let me give you my card. There are some in the glove box. And write your information down as well. You should probably try to go find your own car and head home. I’ll make sure my wife gets in touch with you and gives you any information you need to know. I’m going to wait for her right here.”

“Thanks,” Phillip was a little taken aback about how this man seemed to be treating swapping bodies like getting in a car accident. He supposed it made some sense. He said goodbye as he began to look for his own car.
