Joseph had been one of the earliest infected with the transformation virus. So early that no one believed who he really was the morning he woke up in the body of a black woman. With no proof of identity, he quickly fell into a routine of poverty. It wasn’t for at least two weeks, when the virus became widespread, that people finally started to believe him. His early infection quickly became of interest to scientists, who now sought him out to run tests or take blood. He agreed with a soured and depressed look on his face. He figured he should help out -- if he couldn’t help himself, at least he could help others -- but he certainly wished at least one of these doctors had taken him seriously two weeks ago when the virus first infected him!
