It had been thirty years ago when Derek worked at a theme park. Putting on a smelly costume and dealing with ungrateful kids and their demanding parents in sweltering heat was a terrible job that paid poorly, but it was enough to pay the rent.
He saw a crying little girl one morning and went to go cheer her up. She said she wanted to meet Elsa. The park where Derek worked didn’t have Elsa or any other licensed characters. It was too cheap. Derek didn’t even remember which random animal he was dressed up as that day, but when that girl wished to meet Elsa -- something happened. His whole body started transforming, including his costume; he became exactly what she wanted. He became a real life Elsa.
The parents had a fearful look in their eye, and Derek felt like it was best not to mess with whatever power this girl possessed. He played along. He was Elsa. The girl seemed pleased enough now and moved along. He didn’t change back; he just had to deal with his new self.
In the following days, he had to adapt to the fact that he was now a woman who looked like Elsa. He supposed he was fortunate enough that the dress wasn’t permanently affixed to his body in any way, and he mostly seemed to be a typical woman. There was some differences. Within a month, he realized he wasn’t getting a period. And over the years, he wasn’t aging at all. He often thought of the girl that transformed him, about what kind of wild power she had, and the potential for that power to destroy the world. Despite his changed body, he was pretty thankful the world was still here.
