Volunteer (Part 1)

Orion had remembered volunteering to go inside the tank, yet he knew he shouldn’t. The tank had several objectives. First and foremost, it was supposed to transform Orion’s body from male to female. This part was clearly successful. But someone must have opened it earlier, because the tank should’ve wiped most of his memories as well -- yet he still remembered volunteering; he still remembered being Orion.

It was standard procedure on these interstellar trips. If the number of women dropped too far, men needed to be transformed in order to sustain the population. But why the memory wipe? It just helped ease the transition. Too many men simply had trouble adapting to the role of birthing without it.

Yet Orion had stepped out covered in transformation goo with his memories intact. The ship was also dark. Perhaps a power surge in the anti-matter generator? Yet it wasn’t just dark. The room was also suspiciously empty. Surely, there should’ve been at least one technician in here for monitoring, and maybe someone to give him a towel to wipe this goo off?

He began to have a bad feeling about this...
