The five o’clock news team was scrambling. With minutes before the broadcast, the Great Shift had struck. Of course, the body swapping event would be the top news story, but exactly how they were going to pull if off was yet to be figured out. They had all pulled together for major events on even shorter deadlines, but in those cases, they hadn’t been part of the story themselves!
Thomas was a producer who was lucky enough to be unshifted as he scrambled to pull all the pieces together. He breathed a sigh of relief when he found Ashley Wu, one of the anchors sitting back stage.
“You need to get to the desk,” Thomas instructed.
“I...I can’t,” Ashley’s body stuttered, “I’m n-n-not Ms. Wu! I’m just an intern! I’m John! And I can’t even walk in these heels! How do you expect me to get over there?”
“Take ‘em off! You look like Ashley. You’ll do fine. Or close enough. Whatever. I’m not sure we have a choice.”
“O-okay,” John continued to stutter as he slid his hands down his unfamiliar legs to take off the heels on his feet. He was glad Thomas had confidence in him to do this, because he sure didn’t have the confidence in himself.
