Wei had been assigned to keep watch after several bulls were attacked several nights in a row. However, he had fallen asleep in the early morning and was only startled awake by a rustling sound. That’s when he saw the demon.
She had glowing eyes and horns with a tail that wrapped around her body. Despite these horrid features, she embodies a beauty that could likely seduce any man. Or almost any man. Wei could see something beyond the beauty and under the horror; it was a sense of something familiar.
“Xi?” Wei asked, “Is that you, Brother?”
The demon sighed and nodded.
“I thought you were dead ages ago!” Wei exclaimed.
“Might as well be, as I am cursed with this form,” Xi replied. “If you haven’t figured it out, I have been the one feasting on your cattle.”
“But why? Why do you hurt us so?”
“The craving to feast on anything male is part of the curse. I have become like the one who feasted upon me. I requested this territory as my own, to prevent the village from falling to others far worse than I. Feeding on the bulls is not done to hurt you, it is to save you. If not for the bulls, it would be the men who fall victim to me late at night. Better the cattle than the men; better the devil you know.”
And with that, Xi left with smile.
