First Date (Part 2)

View Part 1 of First Date.

We didn’t even wait to set up a time and a place to meet again; we just took the subway straight to Coney Island. It was a goofy location for a first date, but it was fun. We laughed; we both had a really good time.

But in the middle of it all, Alex got serious. He began telling me all about who he was before the Shift. He hadn’t changed genders in the Shift, but he had been gay; however, he felt like the body he ended up in was straight. He had been trying to fight it -- trying to tell himself he was still gay and that he could still be gay. But he felt like he was fighting a losing battle, especially once he saw me.

I blushed again, explaining my own situation. How I was a man before the Shift, how I was fighting this body’s hormones as a woman, and how I had been fighting these feelings myself before meeting Alex.

He laughed, “That’s perfect! I can even hold on to my identity a little and call you my boyfriend...if you don’t mind.”

“I don’t mind.” I said, “I’d like that. I’d like that a lot.”
