The Great Shift was one of massive events that were so scary for people in groups, where riots, rights, and accidents were common occurrences. But the Shift could be just as scary in isolation.
While the Shift took place in the daytime in the Western hemisphere, it was night on the other side of the world. Eduardo was one of those few people who swapped into a body halfway around the globe. It was strange to not only be in a new body and a new gender, but to go instantly from day to night; to go from being surrounded by loved ones to being alone on a desolate and dark street.
He thought he heard footsteps. In his former body, he was muscular; but in this body, he felt small and weak. Whoever those footsteps belonged to, they were heavy, loud, and getting closer. He had no idea where he was, but he had to get out of there quickly...
