Perform This Way

David’s heart was racing. He was standing on stage in front of 40,000 people and about to perform. People held signs in a language he didn’t understand. Heck, he was even about to sing an hour long set completely phonetically. He felt like a fraud.

In some ways, he guessed he was. He certainly wasn’t the international pop star he was pretending to be; he was just in her body. Her manager knew, of course; as did her agent and the entertainment company. None of them wanted to risk the loss of revenue by letting the truth get out, so David was going to pretend.

Aside from learning the songs and the choreography, the press was limited to English speaking outlets. A few online forums questioned the choice, but the it was dismissed with talk of “breaking into new markets.” It had been months now, and so far, no one could really tell the difference. At times, not even David.
