Brain Scan

“What is that?” Jenny asked Dr. Gomez as he placed an image of a brain scan up on a monitor.

“That’s a scan of your brain from last week before the Great Shift,” He paused before pressing a button to advance a slide, “And this a scan of my brain just now in your body.”

“Those are the same slide! I don’t see a difference!”

“And that’s the problem. They ARE exactly the same. In any sort of scientific sense, there is no reason I should think of myself as Dr. Ricardo Gomez. I not only have Jenny Harper’s body -- your body -- but I also technically still have her mind.”

“I’m pretty sure I’m Jenny Harper though.”

“But there’s no biological proof that any of us have swapped bodies at all. That’s perhaps the most fascinating thing about this so far. So, psychologists or anthropologists and many other fields can see an observable difference, neuroscientists and biologists are having a much more difficult time. We have theories of trying to switch people’s brains back, but it’s difficult to pinpoint what would happen. Many of us are concerned it would trigger a reversion to the brain’s norm with ultimately enough damage to prevent another swap. The solution might worse than what we’re all experiencing right now.”
