Venture Forth (Part 1)

There had been stories of heroes in the realms. Gideon had never imagined he would be one of them. As an only child, taking over his family’s farm seemed like the only option in life. It made no sense that they were targeted by the Mad Mage, but maybe that’s what made him mad -- just random killings and slaughter in his wake. It was also enough to turn a quiet man like Gideon into a fighter. His first encounters were awkward and mostly involved a hasty retreat.

Meeting Gwyn was a stroke of luck. She was a novice wizard with a grudge against the Mad Mage, but he supposed he was little better than a novice fighter himself. A partnership seemed like it could be the beginning of a decent party. And so they began travelling together.

The castle they found after a short time together looked abandoned, a reasonable place to gather a bit of lefr-behind goods or maybe a little loot. But then Gwyn spotted them.

“Goblins,” She said, “Up on the walls.”

“But goblins are, like, super easy to kill, right?” Gideon asked.

“Depends on how many there are. And where there’s one, there’s often more.”

“Damn right there is,” A voice said from behind them. It was a goblin. “Come quietly. The princess will want to see ya.”
