On Fire

“Do you think you can fix it?” Melissa asked quietly from the other side of the room.

“Um...it’s on fire,” Marcus said as he looked down at the device. The thing had shown up on their doorstep in an unlabeled package. They weren’t sure who sent it or what it did when they opened it.

For a while, it just sort of sat around the house. It was only when they both touched it at the same time that it sparked to life. It made noises and lights flashed, and soon Melissa and Marcus had swapped bodies.

Unfortunately, the swapped also seemed to overload the thing and it began to spark, then it began to smoke. Marcus finally opened it up while Melissa kept a safe distance. The insides were simply burning up. Marcus didn’t think he and Melissa would be swapping back into their own bodies any time soon.
