Imagination

Lamar came into his apartment late that night. They discovered a vulnerability in one of the dependencies at work, and all the codes needed to work late to patch it as quickly as possible. He didn’t expect to see the ominous figure sitting on a chair in his living room when he turned on the light.

He certainly didn’t expect her strange appearance either. She wore all leather with a hood. When she lifted it slightly to see her face, he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to recognize her. However, the cold gray color of her skin was certainly unique. The woman seemed to sense his confusion.

“Do you not remember a thing from the Shadowfell?” The woman asked.

Lamar certainly recognized the reference, but he hadn’t played D∓D in years. Though he only knew one person who ever played as a Shadar-Kai...

“Daryl?” Lamar asked.

“I go by Nyx these days,” She responded.

“What the hell happened? How?”

“You’d be surprised by the magic that seeps into the real world through our dreams and imagination. You can join me once again if you wish.”

“I haven’t done any of that stuf in a while. And I’ve got bills to pay...and a girlfriend...and, I dunno...I’m sorry, Man. I just can’t.”
