The reaction to the Great Shift was much calmer than Elio expected. For an event that swapped just about everyone’s bodies, there were no shouts or screams; it was more like a collective gasp. He supposed there were other places where people shouted or fought -- he would later hear about some on the news -- but where he was, people generally reacted like he did with curiosity.
He felt so skinny now. It was hard for him to imagine how these legs could even hold the rest of his body up without snapping in two. Then again, the rest of his body was equally waifish; there wasn’t much they had to hold up. And, of course, he was a woman now! That was truly the wildest part of all this!
And then he thought back to his original body. What had become of it? Where was it? He had been driving right before this. Then seeing the bus crashed into a car in front of him didn’t give him much hope of ever seeing his body again...
