There Goes the Neighborhood

“I was in a strange house,” Duncan quietly shouted from inside Melanie’s body, “I barely noticed I was in the wrong body until I rushed outside and saw...myself!”

“Same! It’s like Freaky Friday here!” Melanie replied, “Except I have no idea of who you are or what I could possibly learn from swapping bodies with you!”

“Are you a racist?” Duncan asked noting his much paler skin color.

“No! Though I should probably mention the caveats of systematic racism...” And, of course, Melanie noticed their genders and added, “Are you a misogynist?”

“Of course not! I don’t think we can solve the problems of racial inequality until we also deal with problems of gender inequality, so at least I hope not!”

“Then why the hell did this happen!?”

And that’s when they both heard the screams from their neighbors. Melanie and Duncan weren’t the only ones swapped. It wasn’t some kind of punishment or lesson. It was pure randomness. The entire neighborhood had been swapped! And they’d soon learn affected the entire world.
