(Not) Making It Work

My girlfriend and I thought we could make it work after the Great Shift. After all, we swapped with each other, and we already felt we knew each other better than any other two people. It seemed like this would only intensify that. Except while we have a pretty laid back relationship before, the Shift caused us to start setting rules for each other.

It started when she asked me not to cut my hair. He long hair was something he loved, and I knew it would pain her to see it go, so I agreed, despite the inconvenience to me each morning. I asked if she couldn’t dress in skirts or dresses, which she agreed to at first. However, after she saw how I was dressing her body for a few weeks, she reneged on that promise after she was unable to convince me not to dress “so manish” all the time.

And all these little rules and negotiations starting adding up over time until we were getting on each other’s nerves. We started arguing all the time. It kept getting worse until one day we both decided to have the talk. We couldn’t stand each other anymore, and we knew it was time to move on.
