“You don’t have to do this, Walter.” Todd begged, “If you pull that lever, it will basically erase me. And I was your best friend! I AM your best friend.”
“That’s why I thought this would work.” Walter was trying to reason aloud in real time. “I thought when I transformed you that it would solve both of our problems. We got along so well together. We liked the same video games and TV shows. But I realized a girlfriend is so much more than just liking the same stuff. She also has to like me.”
“I do like you! Just not in that way!”
“But when I pull this lever, you WILL like me in that way. You’ll like making dinner for me. You’ll enjoy doing my laundry and folding my underwear. You’ll take pleasure in cleaning up after me. But you’ll still enjoy all of the things you do now. It’s a minor tweak, I promise.”
“That’s what you think having a girlfriend is about? That’s what you think of women?” Todd stopped himself from saying more. There was no doubt Walter was dead set on using this invention to change Todd’s brain. It was going to suck, that’s for sure. But he was anticipating worse. It didn’t sound like Walter was going to mess with his orientation or what he was attracted to -- at least not yet. Though Todd had a feeling he’d be back in this chair soon enough if he didn’t start showing Walter some affection -- unless he could escape! And maybe just letting these changes happen would be his best chance of beginning to plot a way out.
